Abstract:
The first part of these lectures will explain joint work with Yongxiong Li, which shows how one can prove a strong form of a non-vanishing theorem of David Rohrlich for central L-values of Gross elliptic curves attached to K=\mathbb{Q} (\sqrt(-q)), where q is any prime \equiv 7 mod 16. The proof uses Iwasawa theory for the prime p=2. In the second part of the lectures, I hope to say a little about possible analogues of these arguments for elliptic curves with complex multiplication for which 2 is a potentially supersingular prime.
