A functional approach on principle eigenvalue of elliptic operators

Abstract:
We will discuss the asymptotic behaviors of principle eigenvalues for second order elliptic operators with large drift or small diffusion. In the case of divergence free drift, we will propose certain functional associated with principal eigenfunctions of elliptic operator and its adjoint. The functional can be applied to establish the monotonicity of the principal eigenvalue, as a function of the drift amplitude. Other applications of such functional will also be discussed.
