Title:	Shock-wave structure for a polyatomic gas with temperature-dependent specific heats

Abstract:	Study of the structure of a plane shock wave is one of the most fundamental problems in kinetic theory of gases. In this talk, we focus our attention on a gas with large bulk viscosity, such as CO2 gas, and investigate the shock profile peculiar to such gases by numerical analysis based on the ellipsoidal-statistical (ES) model of the Boltzmann equation. Then, we extend the standard ES model, which was constructed for a gas with constant specific heats, to a gas with temperature-dependent specific heats. Applying this new model equation, we investigate the same shock-structure problem and show that there is a significant difference in the shock profile between the gas with constant specific heat and that with temperature--dependent specific heat, in particular, for strong shock waves.
